ADVENT IS A TIME OF ANTICIPATION

In his article “Advent is Not Christmas”, worship pastor Drew Causey points out that Advent  is not  “pre-Christmas Christmas”  but rather a time of preparation, and even tension, as our worship services anticipate the incarnation of our Savior.

This is the sentiment Charles Wesley captured in his lyric first published in 1744, Hymns For The Nativity of Our Lord. (Link: Article on Come Thou Long Expected…”)

ABOUT THIS ARRANGEMENT AND RECORDING

On my new Christmas album “JOYFUL!”, I changed the harmonization, but stayed with the traditional melody familiar to Methodists of  “Hyfrydol”.

Christopher Lowry and I recorded this acoustic guitar / violas / percussion arrangement of “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus”. Chris is a musical genius.  He wrote these beautiful string arrangements, then we overdubbed a bazzillion tracks of viola and percussion on most of the songs on the project.
