Listen SOL 30

Jesus and his three closest disciples – James, John, and Peter literally had a mountain top experience. The identity, calling and mission of Christ was dramatically and undeniably affirmed.

The audible voice of the Lord concluded the experience with these simple words.

“This is my beloved son, listen to Him and obey him!”

The voice of Jesus will guide us through every mountain and valley of life if we listen to him.

Carving out space to listen to God can be quite a challenge. We have to be very intentional. Not only is it our natural propensity to be independent and self-reliant, but we also are easily distracted, especially in the modern era. That’s the nature of the natural man, our flesh.

We also have an enemy, Satan himself, who will do everything he can to keep us from listening to the voice of the Lord. He does not want us following the Holy Spirit’s guidance and direction. The enemy does not want us to hear our Master’s words of life.

The antidote is simply to heighten our awareness of the presence of God, knowing He is keenly interested in every detail of our lives. He knows how many hairs are on our heads for crying out loud! His love is passionate for us, not disinterested.

The voice of Holy Spirit will speak by His word, by revelation in your spirit, and sometimes by others. Ask for discernment and wisdom to accurately hear His voice.

He promises to answer you, and give you all you need. Be encouraged by these scriptures from the prophets and the psalmist.

Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. Isaiah 58:9

Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great things, and difficult, which you don’t know. Jeremiah 33:3

When you call to me, I will answer you. I will be with you when you are in trouble. I will save you and honor you. Psalm 91:15

God is all about communication. Talk with him. More importantly, listen to the voice of His Son! He is speaking all the time.

Prayer:

Father I call upon the name of the Lord, let me hear your voice today. Help me to walk in your ways and to obey your commandments. Give me wisdom that I may honor you with my life choices. Help me see you in the darkest times. Help me to give you honor in the brightest of times. Thank you for your unfailing love. I love you Lord! In Jesus name, Amen

About Season Of Light

I am writing a devotional series called “Season of Light” (#SeasonOfLife) during the beginning of 2016, focusing on the 40 day season of Epiphany (from January 6 – February 10). We’ll explore the major biblical themes of the beginning of Jesus ministry, and I’ll comment as the Holy Spirit inspires. This is for the purpose of growing in our relationship with the Lord. My desire – my hope and prayer for you – is that your heart may expand and your spirit grow brighter as we seek to be filled with the knowledge and presence of God. So, I invite you to join me on the “Season of Light” journey!
