Jesus sent his disciples on a road trip. Their mission was to destroy the works of the devil. Â
He gave them clear directions on how to do the work of the Kingdom, the Kingdom way.
Following his instructions, the Holy Spirit empowered them to be supernaturally successful. Â
Here’s the account from Mark, 6: 6-13:Â
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. 7Â Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.
8 These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.â€
They went out and preached that people should repent. 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them. Mark 6:6-13 (NIV)
The followers of Jesus had become transformed men. They didn’t just “believe” the right things, they “demonstrated with joyful urgency that life can be radically different”.
What they did, we can do. Today’s disciples have the same mission and calling as the disciples of old.
God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. The same Jesus and same Holy Spirit instruct and empower us to deliver and heal by His authority.
And that is radically different.
