Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

Today’s free song download is “Faithful” from my first CD “A Friend of John’s”.

The chorus is based on the idea that God is faithful, even when we are unfaithful:

If we are faithless,
He remains faithful,
for He cannot disown himself.
2 Timothy 2:13

The storyline is based on the parable of the prodigal son found in Luke 15:11-32.

The first verse I adapted from the hymn “Lord I’m Coming Home” (public domain text by William Kirkpatrick). I wrote the second verse as an encouragement of God’s faithfulness through every trial.

I lived the prodigal story myself for about 5 years in my late teens/early twenties, a black season of wild living. Like the prodigal, I eventually came to my senses and repented.

I came back to the Lord while watching a Billy Graham crusade on TV.  Got on my knees and prayed the sinners prayer as the choir sang “Just As I Am”. True story. Drove the next day to the crusade in Baltimore, walked forward and gave my life to Jesus – again. My girlfriend was with me and she did the same thing. (Now we’ve been married over 29 years.)

From that moment, I felt the burden of my sins lifted and the Holy Spirit fill me with His presence. I started going hard after God, quit partying and never went back to my prodigal ways. That was 30 years ago. God is faithful.

Faithful

I wandered far away
but now I’m coming home
Never more to roam
I wasted many precious years,
but now I’m home
And I repent with bitter tears
I’m tired of sin and straying, Lord
I trust your love,
and believe upon Your word

Chorus:
I know you are Faithful,
I know you are Faithful
I know you are Faithful,
Even when I’m unfaithful to you,
You are Faithful,
even when I’m unfaithful to you.

Through many trials, through many storms, through many tears
Lord I know you are near
Under the shelter of Your wings
is where I’ll run
For you are my Holy One
Surrounded by Your mercy Lord
I trust your love,
and believe upon Your word

Question: How have you experienced God as faithful?
