My heart is greatly encouraged by two theological insights from this passage in Isaiah.
First, that God is transcendent, He is the “High and Lofty One who dwells in eternity”.
Yet he He is also immanent and deeply cares about you and me. He is not so highly exalted that he ignores our brokenness.
Second, that if the fruit of our being broken and crushed is a contrite and repentant attitude – rather that say, being bitter and resentful – then God empowers us by restoring and reviving our spirit.
“I am here to help… “
The power of the high and Holy one to restore and revive is pretty awesome indeed.
Hope in God.
For this is what the high and exalted One says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. Isaiah 57:15
