Peter Holy Spirit June 6 2015

First let me say, after a long hiatus – moving, getting settled in (still a work in progress), and doing major projects at the church – I’m back sharing #Sunrise #Worship #Devotionals.

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.

18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

Power Encounters

Here we finally see the end result of the power of Christ living inside normal everyday guys who had been transformed by knowing Jesus.

First – Peter and John performed a supernatural miracle, they healed a man crippled from birth. Now he could walk. There was no denying the facts.

Second, the “religious spirit” caught up with them. The authorities demanded the apostles give first allegiance to the religious establishment.

They commanded them to shut up and deny giving glory to God. Intimidation is the tactic of those who assert power and control.

Someday, in some way, you may face a similar confrontation.

Peter was undeterred. He was not bowing to their intimidation. He declared his intention, “we can not help but speak about this”.

May the Holy Spirit today empower you to have as much clarity and courage. Speak up and give glory to Jesus. Amen.
