Well it turned out to be a wonderful Sunday worship at Christ Community Church in McMinnville TN.
But it did not start out that way.
Saturday night was our first ever annual Wholehearted Worship Worldwide Missions Benefit Concert in Nashville, and it was fabulous. But it had been a huge project to pull off, Ivalene and I were up until extremely late in the evening, and we were plum exhausted.
Around 6 am Sunday, bleary eyed and groggy, I was making coffee when I got a text from my drummer – he was very sick and had to cancel.
Ugh. What would you do?
I thought for a moment just go without drums, but then I remembered I’m the guy who wrote a blog post called “Worship Leaders: Be A Problem Solver” and another called Worship Leaders: What’s Your Backup Plan ?Â
I had to take a shot at solving this.
Hmmm. The bass player taught music and his teenage daughter played drums. Maybe she could do it?
Text message to bass player at 6:30 am. Thankfully I heard back from him shortly.
We got a drummer, plus her little brother on guitar. They did great.
And that’s how we roll.
Here’s the set list:
- 10,000 Reasons
- My Savior Lives
- Your Love Never Fails
- Mighty To Save
- The Jesus La La Song
The youth pastor gave the message today and concluded by accompanying himself on guitar and singing Keith Green’s “Make My Life A Prayer To You”
I love Keith Green and especially that song.
It was a great day.
