This song is an adaptation of the original hymn text by Cleland B. McAfee (1866- 1944) with new music by moi. Cleland wrote the song after the death his two nieces by diphtheria in 1901.  [For more inspiring song stories, check out 101 More Hymn Stories: The Inspiring True Stories Behind 101 Favorite Hymns ]

I was touched by the words when I discovered them in a time pf personal worship. However the original melody was time warped in that late 1800’s revivalist style. I hope this composition helps people worship wholeheartedly with these great lyrics.

It’s a free download this week. You can listen on the player below.

Near to the Heart of God

There’s a place, a place of quiet rest
Near to the heart of God
Where sin cannot molest
near to the heart of God

Chorus:
Oh Jesus my Redeemer
Sent from the heart of God
Hold me in your arms
Draw me near to the heart of God,
near to the heart of God

There’s a place, a place of comfort sweet
near to the heart of God
Our Savior we will meet
Near to the heart of God

Chorus
There’s a place, a place of full release
Near to the heart of God
Where all is joy and peace
Near to the heart of God
