The Heart of The Matter
It’s easy for worship leader folks to get caught up in the nuances of making music, arranging, production, technology, people issues, leadership dynamics, and so on.
We lose sight of consciously keeping the main thing the main thing. Too often we assume our worship is God-centered when honestly, it’s not.
God does not dig this.
God centered worship does not originate with our worship plan, it’s flows from the condition of our hearts. Isaiah was blunt about it – “I hate your show.†Jesus was corrective too, “these people worship me with their lips but their hearts are far from me.â€
Be sober, feel convicted. The fear of the Lord is the beginning ….
Worship is first and foremost all about God. It’s our human response to the reality of God. This is what David understood about the heart of worship.
A Vision of God
David enjoyed being in the presence of God, literally gazing upon His beauty, because it was a delightful experience. There was nothing better on earth.
What makes God’s presence enjoyable? It’s the same thing that should make our worship experiences enjoyable. Experiencing God’s love, acceptance, forgiveness, empathy, hope, faith, affirmation, peace and more….
When our worship experiences lack an enlivened vision of God, people perish. So let’s be intentional to focus on specific aspects of God’s character, nature and attributes in ways that are full of spirit and truth. In other words lets meditate on the identity of God. His essence is multi-faceted and revealed through His many names.
Don’t you just love those media backgrounds that display the names and attributes of God?
In our times of worship lets clearly remember and declare who God is. Because, worship is all about God.
