In this post blog readers around the world will discover some wonderful Christmas music produced by a couple of my friends. These albums are off the beaten path, but full of heart, soul, and good musical taste.

The Love Spies “Christmas Time Is Here”

Christmastime Is Here Cover Art

First up and brand new is The Love Spies “Christmas Time Is Here”.  This is a follow-up to last years smashing success, “Merry Little Christmas”.  It was a smashing success because  we listened to it over and over, and over and over.

The“whimsical, ethereal and in a very MERRY mood” Lovespies happen to be our good friends Rob and Julie HIgginbotham, along with a cast of our mutual friends.

And as can be expected,  since you’re reading  my blog , there’s an Uncle Robbie connection. [There’s always an Uncle Robbie connection, by the way …]

So, here’s a transcript of a phone call that has become a pre-Christmas tradition:

Rob H. “Hey Uncle Robbie can I borrow some microphones?”
Moi: Sure. What for?
Rob H. ” Our new Christmas record. We have 3 days to track, overdub, mix and make copies”

A few days later there’s a a wonderful new Christmas recording.

This year your humble lovable worship dude, along with 11 other wanna-be Lovespies, pined about all things Christmasy  on their nuevo rockabilly rendition of 12 Days of Christmas.  Just pay special attention to the “6 geese a-laying” .

They’re handmade covers by the way. This CD should cost more like $30.00 instead of  $7.00.

Track #7 includes my moment of wistful merry-ness:

La Lumiere: Bethlehem Morning

Bethlehem Morning

Next up is “La Lumiere: Bethlehem Morning”

This has been a not-as-well-known-as-it should-be  acoustic Christmas classic. My best buddy and stealth jingle composer the Big Bison produced a timeless project that is just as fresh and heart-warming today as it was when first released in 1989.

This is a soundtrack of the season that oozes love, tranquility and inspiration.

The Bison’s better half, by the way, is one of my most favorite bloggers, Susan in the Boonies

And as can be expected,  since you’re reading  my blog , there’s an Uncle Robbie connection. [There’s always an Uncle Robbie connection, by the way …]

So back in the day, we actually recorded on analog tape, using … gasp, tape recorders. Mr Bison and crew recorded this at Uncle Robbie’s Sonic Emporium (our old studio back in Antioch) on a Tascam 80-8 track. That would grow to be a 16 track, then a 24 track, then 32 track digital, then Radar, then Pro Tools in the box on the I-Mac.

Bethlehem Morning sounds so killer, check it out.
