This was the second Sunday of the new Contemporary Worship Service at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville, TN.
It was a little unusual. The fire alarm went off moments before the service. We had to evacuate the building, the fire department came. But there was no fire , just a faulty smoke detector. So the service started late.
We made some adjustments on the fly. The pastor preaches at multiple times and locations on campus, so we cut the music time to just one song at the beginning of the service. It was an abbreviated, though joyful, service.
A highlight was the introduction of a new Benediction song, something we hope to include regularly, the chorus and bridge from Matt Maher’s “Hold Us Together“
That was very cool and well received. Here’s the lyric we’re singing:
Chorus:
And love will hold us together
Make us a shelter to weather the storm
And I’ll be my brother’s keeper
So the whole world will know that we’re not alone
BRIDGE:
This is the first day of the rest of your life
This is the first day of the rest of your life
‘Cause even in the dark you can still see the light
It’s gonna be alright
It’s gonna be alright
 Here was the service:
- Welcome
- Blessed Be Your Name
- Message
- Testimonial & Offering
- In Christ Alone
- Hold Us Together (Matt Maher)
It was a good day, but with a few hiccups. C’est la vie. There’s always next Sunday.
